On The Job
At a meeting with the Ski School, Lift Operations, Lift Maintenance, and Patrol in early March 2021, a working group was formed to discuss Ski School line privileges. The purpose of the meeting was to better clarify what line privileges Ski and Board Instructors have, while teaching a class and while free riding on the mountain.
One issue that was pointed out during this meeting was that all lifts do not currently have a Ski School line. It was agreed that a Ski School Line would be established at each of the chair lifts.
The following is an outline of the policy that was agreed to regarding the use of the Ski School lines.
Ski Instructors with a class or private lesson:
- Only uniformed instructors with name badge and helmet may have access to Ski School lines, and only when lines are longer than five minutes.
- Instructors will que with their students in the Ski School line and will be directed by the line attendant when to come out and go through the gates to load the lift.
- All students regardless of age must have a lift pass to go through the gates.
- Generally, classes will be merged with the public 4 riders at a time, following in order with the other lines being directed by the line attendant.
- Classes with children 10 and under, may load the entire class when the line attendant directs the class to go through.
Ski Instructors line privileges while not teaching a class:
- Only uniformed instructors with name badge and helmet may have access to Ski School lines, and only when lines are longer than ten minutes.
- Instructors will que in the Ski School line and will be directed by the line attendant when to come out and go through the gates to load the lift.
- Generally, instructors will be merged with the public 4 riders at a time, following in order with the other lines being directed by the line attendant.
- If there are less than 4 instructors, the School line will be treated as a singles line and instructors will be assigned to chairs with less than 4 riders.
- Instructors should alternate between lifts whenever possible.
- All kids wearing a vest need to ride the chairlift with an adult.
- You cannot send kids up the lift so you can then ride alone. If there is an opportunity to ride the lift with your kids please do so.
- Any kids you are not riding the lift with will go ahead of you and know where to wait for you at the top.
- You as an instructor can only take 2 kids with you (one for each hand).
- If you are riding a bigger lift you can find capable and willing adults to ride with you.
